Canfield’s VECTRA® WB360, VISIA® provide doctors with advanced technology to assess and educate their patients on the effects of prolonged sun exposure
Cutting edge technology is making whole body screening easier than ever for both doctors and patients. Canfield's VECTRA® WB360 3D whole-body imaging system provides doctors with the technology to examine their patients efficiently for signs of sun damage, reducing unnecessary biopsies and procedures. Dr. Steven Q. Wang, director of Dermatologic Surgery and Dermatology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center shared, “the benefit to the patient is you don’t have to get all those benign lesions taken out.”
The VECTRA WB360 system captures images of the patient to be analyzed and assessed for any signs of suspicious lesions. The system’s body-mapping technology measures and records any changes found in lesions between two time points, giving doctors and clinicians a second opinion before diagnosing.
In addition, doctors are using Canfield’s VISIA® Skin Analysis to emphasize how tanning and prolonged UV exposure can damage patient's appearance. “Showing people it affects your appearance negatively, with freckling and age spots, has been somewhat successful,” said Dr. Carolyn J. Heckman, a licensed psychologist and co-leader of the Cancer Prevention and Control Program at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey while discussing patients’ tanning habits. Equally effective is emphasizing that snipping away lesions can be disfiguring: “Do you really want scars on your face? Pieces of your nose removed?”
